Filing Fees FAQ
November 20, 2025
FilePoint has prepared a set of FAQs related to wiring filing fees to assist filers when preparing for any fee-bearing forms to avoid interruptions when filing. As a reminder, as of July 31, 2025, as part of the Filing Fee Disclosure and Payment Methods Modernization Rule, all fee-bearing forms will require the fee exhibit to be tagged with iXBRL.
What does insufficient fees mean?
- An insufficient fees warning from the EDGAR system indicates that the funds present in the filer’s account does not meet the amount required for the filing fee.
If I have insufficient fees, can I still file, and if I file – how long do I have to get the funds into the account?
- If you attempt to submit a live filing with insufficient fees, the filing’s acceptance will be held until the funds are debited from the account. If the funds are not debited within 24 hours, the filing is suspended. Also note, if accepted, the filing will receive the delayed acceptance date even if submitted prior.
If I already paid the fee and the funds have not appeared, what do I do?
- If you have already paid the filing fees and the funds have not appeared, we typically suggest reaching out to filingfees@sec.gov to ensure the funds were transferred to the account. When reaching out, it is important to include the wire details so that they may be able to track down the payment and redirect the funds.
How do I check my account balance to see if my deposit has been posted?
- The balance can be checked using the EDGAR Login page rather than the EDGAR Next dashboard: EDGAR Login.
- Sign in with your Login.gov credentials and enter the CIK of the entity you are checking the balance for. Note: you will need to be assigned as a user under the CIK selected or a user under a CIK that has been permitted delegated filing authority.
- Once signed in, select “Retrieve/Edit Data” under the Information Exchange section on the left banner.
- Now, enter the CIK and CCC of the entity you are checking the balance for. Filing codes can be obtained on the EDGAR Next dashboard by expanding the “Manage CCC” dropdown.
- Once the credentials have been entered on the “Retrieve/Edit Data” page, select “Retrieve Balance Information” and the current balance for the entity will be presented.
How long does it take for my funds to be present on the EDGAR account?
- Historically, we have noted that it can take up to a day for the funds to come through on EDGAR. Please also note that US Bank, the US Treasury designated financial agent for SEC filing fee payments, has hours of operation between 8:30 am and 6:30 pm ET for wires.
The SEC has also provided several resources related to wiring fees and more:
- Payment options: gov | Payment Options
- Filing Fee Fedwire Tags and Terminology: gov | Filing Fee Fedwire Tags and Terminology
- Payment template: Filing Fee FEDWIRE Payment Template
- To ensure proper credit and prompt filing acceptance, it is critical to include:
- The payor’s SEC-assigned CIK (Central Index Key)
- And the US Treasury account number designated for SEC filers
- If the wire transfer does not contain the required information in the proper format and does not include the CIK and account number, the SEC may not be able to identify the payor, and the acceptance of the filing may be delayed.
