SEC Previews Planned September 2026 EDGAR Release 26.3

What happened?
The SEC’s EDGAR Business Office has released a preview of anticipated changes to EDGAR System functionality, technical specifications, and the draft EDGAR Filer Manual ahead of a software release currently scheduled for September 14, 2026. The preview gives filers advance visibility into upcoming changes before they go live.
According to the SEC’s announcement, the release is expected to include:
- Beta testing access. Filers will be able to review and test the planned EDGAR system changes in the EDGAR Beta Environment beginning August 31, 2026.
- New and updated technical specifications. Draft specs are being introduced for Form 1 and ANE Exception Notices, alongside updates to existing specifications for SBS Entity Forms and Form 13F.
- Taxonomy changes. A new FND-2026q3 (Fund) taxonomy will be added, while EDGAR will disallow several 2024 taxonomies, including US GAAP/2024, SRT/2024, IFRS/2024, and a range of other 2024 and interim release taxonomies.
- Filer Manual updates. The draft EDGAR Filer Manual, Volume II reflects planned changes including new online interfaces for submitting Form 1 and ANE Exception Notices, revised submission templates for Forms 13F and 13F-CTR, and the relocation of XBRL submission guidance to the EDGAR XBRL Guide.
