On September 27, 2024, the SEC adopted amendments to modernize its Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval (“EDGAR”) system, referred to as “EDGAR Next.” This change will affect all individuals and entities that file with the SEC.

Importantly, as part of this transition, Form ID will be amended to implement the EDGAR Next changes, and the SEC will phase out legacy EDGAR access codes currently used by all filers.

What This Means for Filers

Starting September 15, 2025, compliance with all EDGAR Next rule and form amendments is required. Login.gov credentials will be required to access the new EDGAR Filer Management website. Filers will no longer be able to use a single set of credentials to access their EDGAR account.

Key Dates

Dates Notes
March 24, 2025
  • Amended Form ID is effective and is available on the dashboard.
  • Login.gov individual credentials are required to access the new EDGAR Filer Management dashboard.
  • Enrollment will open. Filers will need their current passphrase and CCC in order to enroll.
September 15, 2025
  • Compliance is required by this date to continue filing on EDGAR.
  • Filers must comply with all EDGAR Next rule requirements and form amendments.
  • The legacy EDGAR system will no longer accept filings, and legacy EDGAR codes will be deactivated, except for continued EDGAR Next enrollment.
December 19, 2025
  • Final day to enroll in EDGAR Next. After this date, filers who have not transitioned must submit an Amended Form ID for SEC approval to regain access.

How to Prepare

Following these key steps will help make sure you are prepared to comply by September 15, 2025.

  1. Obtain Login.gov individual account credentials. These credentials will be required to enroll on EDGAR Next, beginning March 24.
  2. Gather your CIK, CCC and passphrase. These are also needed for enrollment.
  3. Determine which individuals will serve as account administrators within your organization. For single-member organizations, only one individual is required to serve as an account administrator. Otherwise, at least two individuals are required to serve as account administrators.
  4. Begin conversations with your filing agent(s) to determine plans for enrollment and delegating authority to file on your organization’s behalf.
  5. If you do not have EDGAR access currently, apply for access on Form ID on the EDGAR Filer Management website as soon as possible (FilePoint can help apply on your behalf, if requested). The SEC has noted that processing times may be extended in anticipation of the transition, beginning on March 24.
