Compliance Dates for Amendments to Investment Company Names Rule to be Extended

What happened?

On March 14, 2025, the SEC announced that the compliance date for the amendments to the Investment Company Act or “Names Rule” will be extended to June 11, 2026. The original amendments were adopted back in September of 2023.

Previously set for December 11, 2025, the new compliance date for larger fund groups will be June 11, 2026. Smaller fund groups will now be required to fill by December 11, 2026, instead of June 11, 2026.

The SEC stated that this six-month extension “is designed to balance the investor benefit of the amended Names Rule framework with funds’ needs for additional time to implement the amendments properly, develop and finalize their compliance systems, and test their compliance plans.”
